Some notes heading into Saturday's Jacksonville State-Kentucky game:
Kentucky might be the FBS team and Jacksonville State the FCS team, a sub-division lower, but the latter is guarding against taking the former lightly.
"We don't think of anybody as bad; we prepare for everybody the same," JSU safety Brooks Robinson told the Anniston (Ala.) Star this week. "We think everybody is going to be good because we know everybody is going to play us hard.
"They've been planning for two weeks. And it's their homecoming, too. I hope we kill them; well, not kill them. I don't want to spoil anyone's homecoming, but any team I want to beat. We try to upset everybody. We're trying to establish who we are."
This is homecoming weekend. The Cats are 46-19 in homecoming games.
Kentucky is 5-0 against the current alignment of teams in the OVC. The Cats are 3-0 against Eastern Kentucky, 1-0 against Murray State and 1-0 against Tennessee Tech. UK's last game against an OVC team was a 37-12 win over EKU in 2009.
Jacksonville State gained positive pub for its 48-46 double-overtime win at Ole Miss last season, but the Gamecocks nearly beat another BCS team the season before.
On Sept. 12, 2009, JSU led Bobby Bowden and Florida State 9-7 heading into the fourth quarter in Tallahassee.
FSU scored twice in the game's final 35 seconds, once on a fumble recovery, to escape with a 19-9 win.
After a streak of 18 straight non-conference wins, UK is 6-3 in its last nine games against non-conference foes. The Cats lost 21-13 to Clemson in the 2009 Music City Bowl. They lost 27-10 to Pittsburgh in the BBVA Compass Bowl. And they lost 24-17 to visiting Louisville on Sept. 24.
Jacksonville State Coach Jack Crowe was 9-15 in 24 games as the head coach at Arkansas from 1990-92.
After taking over from the fired Ken Hatfield, Crowe went 3-8 in 1990 and 6-6 in 1991. After Arkansas lost its first game of the 1992 season, Athletic Director Frank Broyles fired Crowe. Former Clemson coach Danny Ford was named Arkansas coach at the end of the season.
Crowe became head coach at Jacksonville State in 2000. The Gamecocks are 79-49 under his guidance.
Ford was an assistant at Clemson under former Jacksonville State coach Charley Pell (1969-73), who served as an assistant under Charlie Bradshaw at Kentucky from 1965-68.
Former UK player Clarkie Mayfield succeeded Pell as Jacksonville State coach from 1974-76. Mayfield died in the Beverly Hills Supper Club fire in 1977. His memory will be honored at halftime of Saturday's game.
UK offensive coordinator Randy Sanders coached Jacksonville State running backs coach Jimmy Ogle at Tennessee.
UK's Matt Roark needs one more blocked kick to break the record he shares with Lonnell Dewalt. Each has blocked seven kicks.
Kentucky is second in the nation in fewest yards penalized per game at 26.67.
Since Commonwealth Stadium was expanded in 1999, Kentucky's smallest home crowd was 51,114 for a 41-21 win over Vanderbilt on Nov. 16, 2002.
