Summary: Both offenses combined for only 108 yards. An early UK threat ended when QB Morgan Newton lost a fumble at the JSU 23 after a 14-yard run. UK scored when Martavius Neloms' sack forced a fumble, which he picked up and ran 40 yards for a touchdown.
Thumbs up: The play by Neloms was the only highlight of the quarter.
Thumbs down: Kentucky's offense opened the game with dropped passes and a fumble.
Never miss a local story.
Summary: CoShik Williams (13 carries, 109 yards in the first half) gave UK a lift. La'Rod King made a nice catch for a 29-yard score. A 37-yard Williams run then set up a 1-yard TD run by Newton. JSU had a 79-yard scoring drive late in the half. UK added a late field goal.
Thumbs up: Former walk-on Williams gave the UK offense a much-needed energy boost.
Thumbs down: Leading 21-0, UK gave up a score to let Jacksonville State back in game.
Summary: The third quarter was much like the first — both offenses struggled. After gaining nearly 200 yards in the second quarter, UK sputtered. The quarter ended when Danny Trevathan intercepted a pass and ran 23 yards to the JSU 6, knocking out a ref along the way.
Thumbs up: Trevathan's interception probably sealed the victory for Kentucky.
Thumbs down: It would have been nice to see the UK offense continue its momentum.
Summary: The quarter started with another King TD catch, this one from 6 yards. Gabriel Chambers returned the UK kickoff 99 yards for TD. A Luke McDermott interception set up a 9-yard Jonathan George TD run. UK established a nice running game, finishing with 340 yards.
Thumbs up: La'Rod King. Both TD catches were the type Kentucky has not been making.
Thumbs down: Giving up a 99-yard kickoff return.
