Run the ball
Getting a massive lift from backup running back CoShik Williams (22 carries, 148 yards) and with its veteran offensive line finally healthy, Kentucky rolled up 340 yards on the ground against Jacksonville State. For UK to have a chance to win with its limited passing attack, it has to run the ball effectively.
Stop the run
Behind running back Vick Ballard (85.4 yards a game), Mississippi State is fifth in the Southeastern Conference in rushing (180.1 yards). In its past 20 games, the UK defense has allowed 13 opposing runners to go for more than 100 yards on the ground.
Hold on to the #%@#& ball
The Cats have committed two or more turnovers in 10 of their past 13 games. They have had three or more miscues in six of their past 13. MSU is 15-0 under Dan Mullen when it wins the turnover battle.
Is split. Much of the UK fan base bailed on the football program while the Cats were being brutalized a combined 137-20 by Florida, LSU and Spurrier. However, against Jacksonville State of the FCS, the Kentucky team showed it has not quit on the season. An upset of Mississippi State just might get this wayward season back on track.
