Summary: UK threatened twice early but could manage only a 3-0 lead. Still, it seemed to have momentum when Collins Ukwu recovered a fumble at the State 21. Things reversed quickly as State went on 80- and 65-yard TD drives. UK QB Morgan Newton left the game injured.

Thumbs down: Moments later, Kentucky chose to punt facing fourth-and-3 at the State 37.
Summary: UK recovered a fumble at the State 23, but again had to settle for a field goal. State needed four plays to go 80 yards and make it 21-6. Newton (ankle injury) did not return. Backup Maxwell Smith completed eight of 11 passes, but for only 25 yards.
Thumbs up: Danny Trevathan (10 tackles, fumble caused in half) saved a TD with a pick.
Thumbs down: Kentucky won the turnover battle 3-0 but trailed by 15.
Summary: With Smith hitting a key third-and-13 pass and CoShik Williams running hard, Kentucky reached the State 18 but again settled for a field goal. State's response? An 80-yard drive in nine plays for 28-9 lead. UK was moving again at the end of the quarter.
Thumbs up: Smith wasn't great but he showed some promise.
Thumbs down: Kentucky kept making field goals; State kept scoring touchdowns.
Summary: Smith hit Brian Adams (remember him?) on a key fourth-down pass. Jonathan George then scored from 4 yards and it was 28-16. UK was driving again as Smith kept finding Matt Roark (13 catches, 116 yards) but the drive stalled at the State 8.
Thumbs up: Smith progressed from promise to real hope. The kid looked good.
Thumbs down: UK showed fight but is still winless in SEC, with 36 points in four games.
