Maxwell Smith, who took over as the University of Kentucky's starter nine games into the season, was chosen as the quarterback on the Southeastern Conference coaches' All-Freshman Team announced Thursday.
Smith was the only Wildcat named to the 27-man team.
SEC champion LSU led the way with five selections. Tennessee had four picks as did Arkansas, which included honorary captain Garrett Uekman, the Razorbacks tight end who died during the season as the result of an enlarged heart.
South Carolina placed three on the team, including Freshman of the Year Jadeveon Clowney.
Never miss a local story.
Smith, a true freshman from Granada Hills, Calif., appeared in eight games and started three, completing 84 of 153 passes for 819 yards and four touchdowns. He threw four interceptions.
Smith sprained his throwing shoulder in Kentucky's second-to-last game at Georgia and sat out the season finale.
