Kentucky seniors Josh Forrest and A.J. Stamps have received invitations to the NFL Combine, according to a list posted to the NFL website on Thursday afternoon.
Other seniors vying for a chance at an NFL glance, like injured nose guard Melvin Lewis, will have an opportunity to work out for scouts at Kentucky’s annual Pro Day, whose date has not been announced yet.
Forrest, a 6-foot-3, 245-pound middle linebacker, led the Cats in tackling each of the past two seasons with 110 in 2014 and 93 in 2015. The Paducah native also had two interceptions in each of the last two seasons as a starter.
Lance Zierlein, a draft analyst, wrote that Forrest will work best as a weakside linebacker at the next level and has the “size and range teams look for.
Never miss a local story.
But noted that his “his combination of average instincts and wasted movement in space could be an indicator of up-and-down play in the pros.”
In his two seasons at Kentucky, Stamps recorded 123 tackles with five interceptions and 13 pass breakups. The 5-foot-11, 193-pound safety finished second on the team in tackles last season.
The NFL Combine runs from Feb. 23-29 in Indianapolis. Linebackers are scheduled to go on Feb. 28 and defensive backs on Feb. 29.
