The University of Kentucky could be on the verge of landing its first Rivals 100 football commitment in 10 years.
Lafayette offensive lineman Landon Young has achieved the status of Rivals 100 recruit after being placed No. 91 in Monday’s updated rankings for the class of 2016.
Young committed to Kentucky more than two years ago — the program’s first pledge for 2016 — and he has since earned scholarship offers from such schools as Alabama, Auburn and Ohio State.
Despite that interest, Young publicly declared this summer that he would not visit any other schools and is 100 percent committed to UK.
Young was ranked No. 149 nationally in the previous update from Rivals.
UK has not successfully recruited a Rivals 100 player out of high school since Fort Campbell linebacker Micah Johnson, who was ranked No. 36 overall in the class of 2006.
Johnson remains UK’s only commitment from the Rivals 100 rankings, which date back to 2002. Running back Braylon Heard was ranked No. 57 in the 2010 class before committing to Nebraska out of high school. He later transferred to Kentucky and played one season with the Wildcats.
