University of Kentucky football commitment Drew Barker tweeted some good news for the Wildcats on Tuesday.
The future UK quarterback said top recruiting target Matt Elam will be in Lexington on Dec. 13 for his official visit. Elam’s original plan was to visit UK on that date and then take his official visit to Alabama on Dec. 20. After Elam’s unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa earlier this month, reports surfaced that he would take his official to Alabama on Dec. 13 and reschedule his UK visit.
The John Hardin High School standout hasn’t publicly acknowledged any concrete change of plans.
The timing is important because Coach Mark Stoops has pegged Dec. 13 as the date for all of UK’s commitments to take their official visits. The coaching staff wants as many of those recruits as possible on campus at the same time to further build the bond among the class ahead of National Signing Day on Feb. 5. Having Elam — who has also grown close to many of UK’s commitments — in town at the same time would be a plus for Kentucky.
Elam is planning to announce his college decision Jan. 4. UK and Alabama are widely seen as the two favorites, though the four-star defensive tackle is also considering Tennessee, Notre Dame, Louisville and Ohio State.
