As expected, University of Kentucky basketball recruit Henry Ellenson committed to Marquette on Thursday.
Ellenson — a 6-foot-10 power forward from Rice Lake, Wis. — is ranked as high as No. 4 overall in the class of 2015. His stellar play over the summer earned him a scholarship offer from UK, and he recently included the Cats in his final three, along with Marquette and Michigan State. Ellenson hosted UK Coach John Calipari for an in-home visit last month.
Marquette has been the heavy favorite in his recruitment since his older brother Wally transferred there from Minnesota earlier this year. Wally Ellenson will sit out this season and have two years of playing eligibility starting in 2015-16, which will be Henry's freshman season.
On Wednesday, Scout.com national analyst Evan Daniels told the Herald-Leader that Marquette was the "clear favorite" for Ellenson. Scout ranks him as the No. 6 overall prospect in the senior class.
"He's a guy that can score around the basket but has the ability to step away from the rim, make jump shots and handle the ball some," Daniels said. "He's at his best when he's working inside and then stepping out. He has very good touch, very good hands."
Ellenson was scheduled to be in Lexington next weekend for an official visit centered around Big Blue Madness. That trip has been canceled.
Calipari still has scholarship offers out to 12 uncommitted prospects in the class of 2015, including several highly touted post players. Chicago guard Charles Matthews remains UK's only commitment for next year.
