University of Kentucky men's basketball signee Isaiah Briscoe was named one of 10 semifinalists Tuesday for the Naismith Trophy High School Player of the Year award.
Briscoe, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Roselle (N.J.) Catholic, was joined on the list by several players to whom UK has offered scholarships for the class of 2015.
Those players are small forward Jaylen Brown, power forward Cheick Diallo, shooting guard Malik Newman and center Stephen Zimmerman.
Also honored were power forwards Henry Ellenson (Marquette) and Ben Simmons (LSU), center Chase Jeter (Duke), and shooting guards Dwayne Bacon (Florida State) and Allonzo Trier (Arizona).
Never miss a local story.
Briscoe, who signed with Kentucky in November, is averaging 20.1 points for Roselle Catholic (18-2).
The finalists for the Naismith award will be revealed in two weeks, and the winner will be announced next month.
Ron Mercer, who earned the award in 1995, is the only Kentucky Wildcat to achieve the honor. Kansas freshman Cliff Alexander was last year's recipient.
