UK men's basketball coach John Calipari said Thursday that he anticipates adding "one or two" more players to next season's roster.
Five-star shooting guard Malik Newman is not likely to be on the list.
Newman — a 6-foot-3 prospect from Jackson, Miss. — will announce his college decision at 1 p.m. Friday in a private ceremony to be shown live on ClarionLedger.com.
According to Scout.com director of recruiting Evan Daniels, all signs are pointing to one of the local schools.
"It's been a long process for Malik, but at this point I would be extremely surprised if he didn't announce for Mississippi State," Daniels told the Herald-Leader. "I expect him to stay close to home and play for Ben Howland."
UK, Mississippi State, Mississippi and Kansas are his four finalists.
Calipari has pursued Newman for more than two years, and many recruiting analysts predicted that UK was his favorite at various stages in the process. He visited Lexington for Big Blue Madness last October and has hosted Calipari and his assistant coaches for multiple visits to Mississippi.
Mississippi State emerged as the consensus favorite in Newman's recruitment in the days after the hiring of Howland, who led UCLA to three consecutive Final Four appearances during a 10-year run as head coach of the Bruins.
Newman's father, Horatio Webster, was also a standout player at Mississippi State in the late 1990s.
Scout.com ranks Newman as the No. 8 overall prospect in the class of 2015.
