UK football coach Mark Stoops announced Monday morning that offensive lineman Marcelys Jones has been dismissed from the program due to a violation of team rules.
Jones — a 6-foot-4, 315-pound lineman from Cleveland, Ohio — transferred to UK in June after playing last season as a true freshman at Ohio State. He committed to the Buckeyes out of high school but showed significant interest in UK during his recruitment.
He was considered a four-star prospect in the class of 2014, and he was seen as a major addition to the Wildcats’ offensive line. Rivals.com ranked him as the No. 17 offensive guard in his class.
Jones was not expected to be eligible to play at UK until 2016.
Never miss a local story.
Stoops did not specify the violation that led to Jones’ dismissal. The UK coach announced earlier this month that freshman offensive lineman Nick Richardson — also a four-star recruit in the class of 2014 — was no longer with the team.
