Class of 2018 wide receiver Jermaine Eskridge announced Tuesday that he is no longer committed to play for the University of Kentucky.
Eskridge — a near-five-star recruit — made waves in July when he became UK's first commitment from the class of 2018. The pledge came before his sophomore year of high school, and two-and-a-half years before he would be allowed to sign a binding national letter of intent with the Wildcats.
247Sports ranks Eskridge — a Tampa, Fla., native — as the No. 29 overall prospect in the class.
It was apparent even when he committed that UK would have a tough time holding on to Eskridge, who was sure to be recruited by the best college football programs in the country. The 6-foot-3 prospect has visited home-state Florida for two games so far this season, including the Gators' victory over Vanderbilt last weekend.
Never miss a local story.
UK has 22 commitments for the class of 2016 and six commitments for the class of 2017.
