Camden Wood Selig, Western Kentucky's athletics director the past 101/2 years, announced Friday that he accepted the same position at Old Dominion. He will succeed Jim Jarrett, who is retiring after being ODU's athletic director since 1970.
Selig's departure from Western Kentucky is a homecoming for the Norfolk, Va., native.
"This is an outstanding opportunity for my family," Selig said. "The opportunity to work at such an outstanding academic institution in an area of the country where our family has deep roots is a blessing. WKU, however, has been a truly special place for me and my family."
Under Selig, Western Kentucky's athletics programs collected 66 Sun Belt Conference championships — 26 more than the next closest Sun Belt school — and he oversaw more than $100 million in new construction and renovations of athletic facilities.
Selig was also one of the key figures in the Western Kentucky football program's move up to the Football Bowl Subdivision level.
