The first-round win in Manchester, Ind., sent Transy (18-8) into Saturday's semifinals against regular-season champion Manchester.
Transylvania 71, Rose-Hulman 50: Transylvania (19-7) opened the game with a 25-4 run and cruised to the first-round Heartland Conference Tournament victory in Hanover, Ind. Rose-Hulman (10-16) was held to 3-for-19 shooting in the first half. Transy will face No. 2 seed Franklin in the semifinals Saturday.
Southwestern 84, Centre 70: Maggie Prewitt's game-high 21 points weren't enough for Centre (18-8), which fell in the first round of the SCAC Tournament in Jackson, Miss. Southwestern (17-9) went 11-for-22 from three-point range and 23-for-25 at the line.

California: The NCAA placed the men's basketball program on two years' probation Friday for making more than 300 impermissible recruiting phone calls. Cal self-reported the violation shortly after Coach Mike Montgomery and his staff were hired in April 2008.
Coastal Carolina: The school reported violations regarding its men's basketball team to the NCAA last year. The New York Times reported the focus of the NCAA investigation is possible illegal benefits to players. The Chanticleers (25-4) are in the midst of a breakout season.
