The Oklahoma City Thunder nabbed Murray State star Cameron Payne with the 14th overall pick in the NBA Draft on Thursday night.
The OVC Player of the Year was the final lottery selection of the night.
According to ESPN Stats and Info, Payne was only the third sophomore in the last 25 years to average 20 points and six assists. The others were Jay Williams and Anfernee Hardaway.
"I'm coming in with a chip on my shoulder," Payne told ESPN's Shannon Spake after exiting the stage. "I'm coming in with no bragging rights at all. I'm coming in to do the dirty work. I'm coming in to do anything to survive and provide for my family.
Never miss a local story.
"And that's not going to stop. There is no ceiling for Cameron Payne."
Payne later doubled down on his commitment to doing whatever it takes, as reported by The Oklahoman's Anthony Slater.
"Anything Coach needs me to do, Cameron Payne is going to do it," Payne said."... If I'm needed to play the 2, if I'm needed to play the 5, I'm going to do it," Payne said.
