Northern Kentucky University unveiled a redesigned basketball court in BB&T Arena on Wednesday.
The new design for John L. Griffin Court features a Norse ship watermarked in a golden hue, with the NKU Norse wordmark in the middle of the ship's sail at center court.
“We wanted a new, fresh look for the court to showcase the Norse brand,” NKU Director of Athletics Ken Bothof said. “The Norse ship rising through the sea is meant to serve as a metaphor for the uprising of Northern Kentucky athletics.” “Northern Kentucky” is written along each baseline, while “Northern Kentucky University” is positioned along the sideline opposite the scorer’s table and oriented for television broadcasts. Northern Kentucky’s official website, NKUNorse.com, and Twitter handle, @NKUNorse, are prominently displayed next to the two benches. On each end of the court, the Horizon League logo appears in the lane and both John L. Griffin Court and BB&T Arena are written inside the three-point arc.
The arena serves as home for NKU's men's and women's basketball teams and will host the girls' high school Sweet Sixteen for the first time in 2016 and 2017.
