Whitney Wade of Glasgow, fourth on the LPGA Futures Tour's money list, is one of several Kentuckians in the field for the Falls Auto Group Classic at Crooked Creek Golf Community course in London this weekend.
With four tournaments left this season, Wade is trying to maintain a top-five spot in the rankings to earn full exempt status on the LPGA Tour next season. Players who finish sixth through 10th on the money list earn partial LPGA Tour status.
Wade, a three-time winner of the Kentucky State Amateur Championship (1999-2001) who played at the University of Georgia, has finished in the top three in three of her past five tournaments, including a third-place finish last weekend in Syracuse, N.Y. She won The Duramed Championship in Mason, Ohio, in mid-June.
Other Kentuckians in the three-day event, which starts Friday, include Taryn Durham (Glasgow), Katie Fraley (Brandenburg), Brittany Klein (Henderson) and Erica Still (University of Kentucky).
Mindy Kim of Diamond Bar, Calif, shot a 10-under 206 to defeat Vicky Hurst by one stroke in last year's inaugural event in London. Both are playing on the LPGA Tour this season.
