Pat Tallent, a former Kentucky high school basketball star, is making noise in the USGA Senior Amateur Golf Championship.
Tallent shot 70-70--140 to take medalist honors over the weekend, and he has since advanced to Wednesday's quarterfinal round of match play at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Florida.
Tallent won two matches Tuesday, including a 20-hole victory over former U.S. Amateur and British Amateur winner Vinny Giles.
Tallent, 57, now lives in Vienna, Va. He was an all-state basketball player at Maytown (in Floyd County) and averaged 30 points his senior season (1969-70). He played college hoops at George Washington University.
Pat's brother Bob also was a basketball star at Maytown, and he was a reserve on Rupp's Runts in 1966 at UK. He later transferred to George Washington.
