A trio of amateurs was tied for the lead after the first round of the Kentucky Open at Keene Trace Golf Club's Champions Course on Tuesday in Nicholasville.
One of those was Owensboro's Andy Roberts, the winner of this tournament in 2010. Roberts' 5-under par first round was highlighted by an eagle on No. 11. He also four birdies and one bogey on the first day of the three-round event.
Billy Tom Sargent, Kentucky's Mr. Golf in 2012 and 2013 while at Scott County, also shot 5 under. Sargent, who will be a sophomore at Western Kentucky, had an eagle on No. 15 to go with four birdies and one bogey.
Recent Ryle graduate Austin Squires rounded out the trio of at 5 under. The University of Cincinnati-bound Squires had seven birdies and two bogeys on his scorecard.

Logan Hogge (Bath County, Morehead State), this year's Kentucky Amateur winner, was tied for fourth with Daniel Iceman III (St. Xavier, Louisville) at 4 under.
A group of six golfers at 2 under included Kent Bulle of Glasgow, who competes on the PGA's Latin American and Canadian tours and former PGA golfer and Pikeville native Robert Damron.
Bulle closed with birdies on four of his last five holes.
