Then Lexington Catholic High School wrestler Adam Bender excelled at wrestling, attaining No. 3 in the state in his class in 2015. The loss of one leg to cancer as a 1-year-old hasn't held Adam back -- as a young baseball player who inspired many or as a wrestler.
Adam Bender, 8, was one of several kids who played catcher in Southeastern's rookie league at Veterans Park. Adam played one of the toughest positions on the field with only one leg. He was diagnosed with cancer as a 1-year-old and his left leg was amputated. Adam didn't use a prosthesis, and only used crutches when he reached base for the Astros.
