Tuesday marked the season openers for the Woodford County and Tates Creek boys' soccer teams.
Both looked to be in mid-season form, though, with lopsided wins in the Fayette County Soccer Spectacular at Bryan Station.
Woodford County pasted Lafayette 6-0 in the opener, which was delayed at the start for about 35 minutes because of lightning.
Tates Creek then blitzed Bryan Station by the identical score.
Woodford Co. 6, Lafayette 0: Christian Ramires tallied twice to lead the Yellowjackets.
Zac Blaydes, who assisted on both Ramires goals, got one himself. So did Daniel Christian, Jax Young and Ethan Gardner.
"(Lafayette is) a young team. I thought we did what we had to do," Woodford Coach Fonyam Atanga said.
Topping the list of things to do were to, he said, "convert our opportunities. I want to play fluid, attacking soccer, and I saw all of that."
"And I always like my teams, defensively, to be well organized. The majority of the game, we were."
Ramires opened the scoring 5½ minutes in, heading in a free kick taken by Blaydes.
"It was a perfect ball by Blaydes," Ramires said. "I saw him hit it and it just curved right in, and just appeared right in front of me."
Blaydes found the net about 11 minutes later for a 2-0 edge.
In the first minute of the second half, Blaydes sent a through ball to put Ramires on a breakaway. Ramires didn't miss.
"Again, a beautful ball by Blaydes," Ramires said. "He just looked up and saw me, and I made the run in."
Christian, Young and Gardner put the icing on with second-half goals.
"There's not a lot of positives tonight from my point of view," Lafayette Coach Chris Grimm said. "This is the worst we've played since we've gotten together July 15. Not the performance I was hoping for.
"I know we're young and we're definitely inexperienced — we only return two or three guys that really played a lot of minutes last year, so we've got a lot of things to work out. But I'm looking first and foremost for guys to compete and play hard. Except for a few, it didn't happen tonight. I give tons of credit to Woodford. .... They're a really good team."
Tates Creek 6, Bryan Station 0: Five different Commodores scored first-half goals to make this one a romp by intermission.
Thomasa Doering, Cubaka Mutayongwa, David Vickers, Samer Shalash and Pat Carlson each buried a first-half chance.
Austin Magsig added a goal early in the second half and Creek never let the Defenders back in the game.
"We did come out very well prepared," Commodores Coach Brandon Turek said. "Bryan Station's young and going through injuries. We've gone through injuries early in the summer and are starting to bounce back from them.
"But I'm very proud of the way the guys played tonight. ... We had three goals off the bench, so we do show a lot of depth this season."
