Two-time defending Class 5A champion Bowling Green beat Lexington Catholic 48-21 in the Rafferty’s Bowl at Western Kentucky University late Saturday night.
It was the Purples’ 31st victory in a row, and third win over LexCath in the last three years.
Bowling Green senior star receiver Nacarius Fant had a big game, catching four passes for 149 and four touchdowns. Quarterback Devin Hayes completed eight of 13 passes for 172 yards and four scoring strikes to Fant.
Bowling Green, which plays Bryan Station on Saturday in LexCath’s Bluegrass Bowl, had 446 yards.
LexCath took a 7-0 lead on Reese Ryan’s TD pass to Sam Letton, but Bowling Green outscored the Knights 42-7 after that to take control.
Marcelis Logan had a 73-yard punt return for a TD in the fourth quarter for LexCath.
The Knights had 229 yards. Ryan, a junior quarterback, completed 16 of 26 passes for 150 yards and two TDs. David Bouvier had eight catches for 88 yards and a score.
LexCath plays host to St. Xavier in the Bluegrass Bowl next Saturday.
In other games Saturday night: Danville won its debut under new coach (and former Admirals star) Clay Clevenger by beating Franklin-Simpson 25-7 in the Forcht Bank Bowl at Campbellsville University . . . Clark County had almost 600 yards as it ripped Rowan County 58-13 in the 66th Recreation Bowl in Mount Sterling. In the nightcap, Bourbon County beat host Montgomery County 48-12 for its 14th regular-season win in a row . . . McCracken County, a new school in far western Kentucky, lost its first game, 24-23 to Paducah Tilghman.
