John Hardin led by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter before yielding a late touchdown to visiting Bullitt East, and won 28-14 in the Class 5A quarterfinals on Friday night.
The Bulldogs (11-2) may be without star defensive tackle Matt Elam in the state semifinals at Bowling Green (12-0) next Friday. The five-star prospect, whose list of top three colleges includes Kentucky, exited the game with a left knee injury with seven minutes to go in the game.
The John Hardin football Twitter account (@JHHS_Football) tweeted a photo of Elam with an ice pack wrapped around his knee. The same tweet suggested that an MRI was forthcoming.
Bourbon Co. 47, Mason Co. 21: Junior running back Brent Holman had 166 yards and three TDs on just 15 carries for the Colonels (13-0), who will play host to Belfry (12-1) in next week's state semifinals.
Senior linebacker Jaxson Highlander finished with 14 tackles for Bourbon County.
Highlands 28, Covington Catholic 13: Seniors Drew Houliston and Zach Harris each scored two rushing TDs for the Bluebirds (12-1), who advance to the state semifinals at Lexington Catholic (12-2) next Friday.
Houliston went 17-for-26 for 191 yards. Harris rushed for 194 yards on 30 attempts.
Ben Dressman, a sophomore QB, scored both CovCath TDs, each a rushing score. He had 103 yards on 12 touches but was held to no yards on 2-for-7 passing.
Collins 42, North Oldham 14: Ryan Watkins rushed for four TDs against the Mustangs (9-4). DeAndre Ferris totaled 240 all-purpose yards for the Titans (11-2), who will visit Owensboro (10-3) next week in the state semifinals.
Anderson Co. 31, Franklin Co. 28: Zach Carmichael scored the go-ahead TD and threw a two-point conversion pass to Ross Cox with three minutes left to push the Bearcats past the Flyers.
Cox rushed for two TDs in the first half and 201 yards in the game for the Bearcats (11-2), accounting for over half of his team's 329 total yards.
Chris Roberts scored all four TDs for the Flyers (11-2). He finished with 123 rushing yards
The Bearcats will host Pulaski County (13-0) next Friday for a chance at a berth in the state championship game.
