There was quite a bit of blue sprinkled among the red and black at Paul Laurence Dunbar on Friday night.
Madison Southern running back Damien Harris played in Lexington for the only time this season, and the University of Kentucky's top recruit put on another show.
Harris ran for 321 yards on 19 carries and scored seven touchdowns in the Eagles' 49-35 victory over Dunbar. The UK fans showed up, sitting on both sides of the field and standing on the track that surrounded it.
"All week, we were pushing to make a statement," Harris said. "Overall, we played a great game. We like to think that we made a point."
Harris started things off with a 30-yard run on his first touch of the game, but the play was called back due to a Madison Southern penalty. He was stuffed at the line of scrimmage on the next play, and then his fun began.
The senior running back took his next carry 50 yards for his first touchdown of the night. He added TD runs of 53, 58, 8 and 31 yards before halftime to give the Eagles a 35-14 lead at the break.
Harris' final touchdown of the half might have been the most impressive, if only because the Bulldogs knew exactly what was coming. With 2 seconds left on the clock, Harris took a direct snap, read the defense and took off for a score as the horn sounded.
When Dunbar's Maurice Carter returned an interception 58 yards for a touchdown to get the Bulldogs back within 42-27 early in the fourth quarter, Harris answered.
The nation's No. 1 running back took the ensuing kickoff 91 yards for his seventh and final touchdown of the game, going over 400 all-purpose yards in the process.
"I don't try to look and see how much I have left in me," he said. "If I'm in there and I get the ball, I just try to go."
