Aaron McGeorge threw a complete-game four-hitter as Henry Clay beat Bryan Station 1-0 in the 42nd District semifinals Monday night at the Sayre Athletic Complex.
McGeorge, a senior right-hander, had five strikeouts and walked one.
"He kept everything in the zone, pitched to contact and we made plays behind him," Blue Devils Coach Jordan Tarrence said. "When he needed a strikeout, he got it."
Henry Clay got its run in the fifth. Sam Jiunta walked, stole second, went to third on Cameron Lord's sacrfice bunt and scored on McGeorge's safety squeeze.
Never miss a local story.
There was a bizarre ending to the sixth inning. Bryan Station had a runner at third with two outs and Devon Key at the plate when a McGeorge pitch got by Devils' catcher Trevor Hammonds.
Hammonds scrambled to get the ball as the runner came home. His throw to the plate was off-target but it hit Key, who was out of the batter's box. The umpires ruled interference on Key, ending the inning. "I was told they called him out because once you leave the box, you have to get out of the way," Tarrence said.
