Megan Hensley, who led Ashland Blazer to its seventh straight appearance in the Worth/KHSAA State Softball Tournament, was named Miss Softball by the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association late Saturday.
Hensley, the Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior last season and a University of Louisville signee, struck out 15 batters in consecutive games against East Jessamine and Warren East in the state tournament. Her go-ahead solo home run in the 10th inning against Warren East Friday advanced the Kittens (32-9) to the winner's bracket finals for the first time in program history.
Ashland Blazer fell 6-0 to eventual state champion McCracken County in those finals.
Scott County's Samantha Luckett was named 11th Region Player of the Year by the coaches. Luckett guided the defending-champion Cardinals to a 31-10 season.
Never miss a local story.
The four-game East-West All-Star series begins 9 a.m. Saturday at Ballard High School. The awards will be presented following the conclusion of the second game.
