The winner of the Fayette County Soccer Spectacular will be decided Saturday evening. The championship game participants are still to be decided, however. That will happen Saturday morning at Paul Laurence Dunbar.
Woodford County and Dunbar will square off at 8 a.m. Campbell County and Boyle County will face each other at 10 a.m. The winners of those games will meet in the championship game of the weeklong girls' tournament at 8 p.m.
Coach Thomas Morgan of Dunbar said the tournament has gone well. It was expanded this season to 12 teams, which participated in group play Monday through Thursday at various sites in Lexington.
"The goal was to provide a tournament early in the season with quality competition, and these teams have not disappointed," Morgan said.
Never miss a local story.
Morgan said the games have given coaches a platform to identify areas of improvement and prepare their teams for the postseason.
Consolation games to be played Saturday at Dunbar are: Tates Creek vs. Ryle, noon; Clark County vs. Boone County, 2 p.m.; Lafayette vs. Bishop Brossart, 4 p.m.; Henry Clay vs. Madison Southern, 6 p.m.
