For most of the first half and part of the second, Lexinton Catholic looked like the more dominant squad against a St. Xavier team ranked in the top five of Kentucky’s highest football division. The Tigers showed why they warrant their ranking, completing an epic comeback to defeat LexCath 42-28 in the second game of the Traditional Bank Bluegrass Bowl on the Knights’ home field.
St. X scored 42 unanswered points after going down 28-0 to Lexington Catholic at the 10:48 mark of the second quarter. Sam Taylor’s touchdown run with just under five minutes left in the first half sparked the crazy run.
Taylor finished with 260 yards and three TDs on 32 carries. St. Xavier was without quarterback Desmond Ridder, a Cincinnati commit who was suspended for undisclosed reasons.
Never miss a local story.
Dameon Jones had 79 yards and a TD on 14 carries for Lexington Catholic, who for the second straight year fell late to a higher-class foe in their annual bowl game. Ryle defeated the Knights 31-24 last season.
