Jaylen Beckham, touted as one of the top underclassmen basketball players in the state the last couple of years, is leaving Lexington Catholic.
Knights Coach Brandon Salsman said Beckham, a 6-foot junior-to-be, is headed to St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, N.J.
St. Benedict's new coach is Roshown McLeod, who had been recruiting Beckham when McLeod was an assistant at Indiana University.
Beckham, who averaged 16 points for Lexington Catholic as a sophomore, has scholarship offers from Alabama and Washington. His brother Seth, a 6-1 guard who also started for the Knights last season, will remain at Lexington Catholic for his senior year.
"Jaylen's going to be a great one (at St. Benedict's), but he'll always be a Knight to us," Salsman said.
"We wish he wasn't leaving, but we feel we have some really talented young players, and we'll continue to be Lexington Catholic."
