Madison Central, ranked 16th in Dave Cantrall's Rating the State, outscored Berea by 14 in the second quarter of a 57-48 victory in the opening round of the 44th District tournament at Eastern Kentucky University's McBrayer Arena on Monday.
Jared Pyatt scored a team-high 18 points for the Indians. Dominique Hawkins and Ken-Jah Bosley added 10 apiece. Nathan Vaughn led the Pirates with 20 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Madison Central advanced to the championship game and will play the winner of Tuesday's game between Model and Madison Southern.
East Jessamine 82, Burgin 51 (46th): The Jaguars jumped out to a 33-9 lead after the first quarter and ended up hitting 11 three-pointers. Tashan Hairston led East Jessamine with 15 points.
Mason Co. 66, Bracken Co. 39 (39th): Tyler Black scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Royals.
No. 18 Madison Central 72, Berea 39 (44th): The Lady Indians scored 39 points off 31 Berea turnovers. Ashton Feldhaus and Jenna Cornelison both scored 16 points for Madison Central, and Cornelison also had five rebounds and six steals.
Harrison Co. 68, Nicholas Co. 28 (38th): Freshman Jordan Doram posted her 18th double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds in the Fillies' win.
Mercer Co. 67, West Jessamine 38 (46th): Savannah Taylor scored 15 of her 30 points in the first quarter when Mercer County jumped out to 22-8 lead.
Covington Holy Cross 75, Beechwood 38 (35th): Down by three to start the second quarter, the Indians went on an 18-0 run and cruised from there. Iman Ronney scored 12 of her team-high 19 points in the quarter.
No. 10 Perry Co. Central 84, Buckhorn 30 (54th): The Lady Commodores' Kendall Noble scored 20 points to go with seven assists, six rebounds and eight steals.
Bracken Co. 64, Mason Co. 56: Sara Sticklen poured in 40 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in the Lady Bears. Taylor Smith had 33 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Royals.
No. 1 Manual 60, Collegiate 18 (25th): The top-ranked Lady Crimsons outscored the Amazons 25-0 in the first quarter. Manual's starters rested for most of the game and Morgan Allen and Destony Curry came off the bench to score 13 points apiece.
No. 3 Mercy 81, Male 39 (25th): Christine and Courtney Roush combined to score 22 points in the Jaguars' win.
No. 22 Notre Dame 61, Holmes 39 (35th): Hannah Thelen had 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Pandas.
Leslie Co. 54, Hazard 43 (54th): Hillary Moore was 16-for-17 from the free throw line and scored 25 points.
Powell Co. 57, Owsley Co. 45 (56th): Powell County freshman Keeley Rogers had 22 rebounds and 18 points. Owsley's Payton Wright had 32 points and 12 rebounds.
