A 12-2 run in the third quarter helped send the Clark County girls to a 64-53 victory against Bishop Brossart in the opening round of the 10th Region tournament at Bourbon County.
Shamy Williams was 5-for-6 from three-point range and scored 21 points to lead the the Lady Cardinals. Brittani Gay added 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Prisha Rogers had seven points, six rebounds, six assists, six steals and four blocked shots.
Becca Kidney scored a team-high 13 points for Brossart, and Rachel Hartig had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Pendleton Co. 60, Bracken Co. 55 (10th): Brittany Wells hit a pair of free throws with 1:20 to go that gave the Lady Cats the lead for good.
Pendleton County, which closed the game on a 6-1 run, got 18 and 16 points, respectively, from Kelsie Pugh and Tayler Black.
Sara Sticklen did the brunt of the work for the Polar Bears, scoring 32 points to go with nine rebounds, two steals and two assists.
No. 4 Mercy 67, No. 9 Sacred Heart 48 (7th): Mercy used a 14-1 run that bridged the second and third quarters to put away Sacred Heart at Atherton.
Courtney Roush scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Jaguars (23-7), who also got 16 points from Juliann Miller and 11 rebounds from Emily Goetz.
Maddie Peabody scored 12 points to go with seven rebounds and three steals for the Valkyries (23-6).
Jeffersontown 66, Fern Creek 53 (7th): Aisjah Roan scored 23 points to go with 10 rebounds, five steals and four assists in the Lady Chargers' victory. Lenette Holt added 17 points and seven rebounds.
Rau Jau' Terry led the Lady Tigers with 24 points, and Teonia McCune had 15 points, 15 rebounds and six blocked shots.
Ballard 63, Louisville Christian 56 (7th): Javonna Layfield was 10-for-14 from the field and scored 24 points to go with five rebounds and four steals for the Lady Bruins. Jaylan Bodiford had 20 points and eight rebounds.
Louisville Christian's China Dow was perfect from three-point range — 4-for-4 — and had 20 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists.
No. 1 Manual 85, Assumption 59 (7th): Mechael Guess scored 23 points and the top-ranked Lady Crimsons led by as many as 40. Katie Friedrich had 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Rockets.
South Laurel 77, Jackson Co. 41 (13th): Macy Clontz knocked down seven three-pointers in nine attempts to lead South Laurel. Clontz scored 23 points and also had six rebounds.
Shanay Gray and Chelsea Cunigan scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, for Jackson County.
Middlesboro 56, Knox Central 42 (13th): Anajae Stephney had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Middlesboro. Blair Green added 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
No. 6 Boone Co. 71, Covington Holy Cross 50 (9th): Sydney Moss, the daughter of NFL star Randy Moss, scored 27 points and the Lady Rebels cruised to the win.
Covington Holy Cross' Iman Ronney had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
