Henry Clay's boys, ranked 18th in Dave Cantrall's Rating the State, jumped out to a 25-8 lead by halftime and went on to defeat Sayre 58-35 in the 42nd District tournament at Scott County. Monday was the opening night of district play across the state.
Trey Grundy was 7-for-11 from the field and led the Blue Devils with 17 points, four rebounds and two steals. Jordan Green had seven assists, and Jeremiah Tichenor had seven steals.
Ray Brewer scored 24 points and had eight rebounds for the Spartans.
West Jessamine 84, Burgin 60 (46th): Chase Fain had 27 points, seven steals, four rebounds and three assists for the Colts. Daulton Peters added 23 points and five steals.

Elizabethtown 78, Fort Knox 43 (17th): Zach Patterson scored 21 points, including five three-pointers, and had nine rebounds for the Panthers.
Woodford Co. 59, Western Hills 56 (41st): Eli Boggess scored 23 points for the Yellowjackets.
Clark County 65, Paris 60 (40th): Khmarkis Blanton led the Cardinals with 22 points.
No. 5 Montgomery Co. 90, Bourbon Co. 41 (40th): Bryan Wallace and Omar Prewitt scored 25 and 20 points, respectively, for the Indians.
Scott Co. 75, Sayre 50 (42nd): Laura Szorenyi scored 18 points and had six assists to lead a balanced attack for the Lady Cardinals. Bailey Hawkins added 16 points, and Tereka Guyn and Danielle DeFoor added 15 apiece. Guyn also had 13 rebounds and four steals. Molly Manella led the Lady Spartans with 25 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.
Franklin Co. 64, Western Hills 33 (41st): Malaka Frank had 15 points, four rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots for the Lady Flyers.
No. 13 Louisville Christian 70, Eastern 64 (28th): Chine Dow scored 34 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and added four assists, three steals and two blocked shots to help the Lady Centurions hold off Eastern. Madison Raque scored 20 for the Lady Eagles.
Perry Co. Central 67, Buckhorn 30 (54th): Kayla Rankin scored 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Lady Commodores.
