West Jessamine's boys outscored host Lincoln County by 14 in the third quarter and held on for a 79-69 victory Monday on the opening night of play in the 12th Region tournament.
The Colts (18-11) were led by senior guard Chase Fain, who had 26 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Daulton Peters, a junior, added 19 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
Sophomore Timmy Taylor had 18 points and 14 assists for the Patriots (15-18). B.J. Hoover was 4-for-9 from three-point range to account for the bulk of his 18 points.
Next up for West Jessamine is Wayne County, ranked No. 22 in Dave Cantrall's Rating the State.
The Cardinals (24-7) rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat No. 17 Pulaski County 57-54. Corey Stearns led the way with 15 points.
Pulaski's Taylor Gover, who had been averaging 22.4 points per game, was held to 10. Kody Johnson had 28.
No. 5 Montgomery County 81, Nicholas County 38 (10th): Omar Prewitt scored 16 points and Darius Jones had 14 for the Indians (29-4).
Johnson Central 61, Prestonsburg 52 (15th): Junior star Shane Hall had 17 points and 17 rebounds for the Golden Eagles (20-10). Prestonsburg's Bryson Williams had 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Pikeville 74, Pike Central 58 (15th): Ethan Rowe scored 32 points and the Tigers improved to 22-10.
Cordia 52, Breathitt County 42 (14th): Cordia point guard Emmanuel Owootoah scored 17 points.
No. 23 Covington Catholic 52, Ryle 30 (9th): Sophomore Bo Schuh scored 15 points for the Colonels (26-6).
Newport 68, Dixie Heights 59 (9th): Marquis Commodore and JaQuan Short scored 18 points apiece for the Wildcats (21-10).
No. 20 Male 55, Manual 48 (7th): Josh Stoner scored a game-high 22 points for the Crimsons (25-8).
No. 17 Butler 66, Louisville Holy Cross 57 (6th): Danielle Lawrence scored 22 points and Aareon Smith had 18 points, four assists and four steals for the Bearettes (22-7).
No. 4 Mercy 76, Western 34 (6th): Whitney Hartlege scored 15 points and four of her teammates — Morgan Doherty, Camryn White, Erin Muthler and Kassidy Kiesel — had 11 for the Jaguars (18-10).
Bullitt East 59, North Bullitt 46 (6th): Lindsey Duvall had 23 points, three rebounds and three assists in a win for the Lady Chargers (24-7).
Pleasure Ridge Park 76, Moore 36 (6th): Paige Murphy and Kelsey Adwell both scored 20 points for the Lady Panthers (25-6). Adwell also had seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.
