Girls: No. 19 Dunbar fends off Lexington Catholic
With the game tied at 35-all, Paul Dunbar’s girls finished on an 8-0 run in a 43-35 victory over visiting Lexington Catholic.
Brooke Todd, who scored the go-ahead basket with 2:17 left to play, finished with eight points, 17 rebounds and 11 blocked shots for the Lady Bulldogs, ranked 19th in Dave Cantrall’s Rating the State. Shakeema Jackson led Dunbar with 14 points.
Caroline Lynch had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Catholic.
■ Dasia Kilbourne and Rebecca Cook scored 16 points apiece and No. 6 Franklin County defeated visiting Henry Clay 61-48. Kilbourne also had nine rebounds and Cook had three blocked shots. Up next for the Lady Flyers is a matchup with No. 3 Anderson County on Tuesday night.
■ Dee Givens came close to a triple-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals in No. 8 Lafayette’s 57-34 win at Madison Central. Kiara Pankins added 16 points, nine rebounds and four steals in the Lady Generals’ victory.
■ Kerrigan Samons scored 27 points and had 16 rebounds in Paintsville’s 69-35 win at home against Lawrence County.
■ Paul Dunbar led by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter, but had to hold on for a 55-51 victory after Lexington Cathlolic cut it to one with 43 seconds left. Darius Williams scored 31 points for the Bulldogs.
■ Colby Barnes scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead No. 17 Henry Clay past visiting Breathitt County 66-56.
■ Zac Collins scored all 24 of his points on three-pointers in Paintsville’s 74-64 win at home over Prestonsburg.
