Lafayette standout Jackson Davis narrowed his recruitment to six schools this week, but that hasn't stopped others from calling.
Davis — in Rupp Arena on Friday to receive his 11th Region player of the year award — added Florida back to his list a few hours after trimming it Wednesday, and Auburn might be the next program under consideration.
Auburn assistant Tony Jones called Davis on Thursday night to offer a scholarship on behalf of new Auburn coach Bruce Pearl. Jones is arranging an in-home visit with Davis and his family for Sunday. If all goes well, the Tigers will join Davis' list.
"I probably wouldn't have considered it before, but Bruce Pearl is definitely one of those coaches you have to at least consider," Davis said Friday. Pearl is not allowed to have contact with prospective recruits until his NCAA show-cause penalty expires in August.
The schools currently on Davis' list are Alabama, Arizona State, Butler, Columbia, Creighton, Florida and Vanderbilt, with Auburn a possibility to be added in a few days. Florida is the only school that has not offered a scholarship. Gators assistant coach John Pelphrey spoke to Davis on Wednesday and made plans to see him work out after Florida's season ends.
Davis plans to visit Alabama, Arizona State, Butler, Creighton and Vanderbilt. He has already visited Columbia, and he said he might visit Auburn and Florida.
Davis said the process could stretch all the way until May 21, the last day of the regular signing period.
Court of Honor
Chris Renner, who has led Ballard to six region titles, a state title (1999) and four runner-up finishes, was among the coaches inducted into the Court of Honor in Rupp Arena on Thursday afternoon.
The award, presented by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches, also went to Roger Fields of Mayfield, Frank Cardwell of Franklin-Simpson, Garnis Martin of Bardstown, Charles "Sleepy" Adams of Fleming County, John Heber of Henry Clay, Raymond Justice of Belfry and James Anderson of Ashland. Gary Kidwell of Lewis County was also honored with a lifetime media award.
