Bart Flener, who has been the women's basketball coach at Asbury University the past six seasons, is returning to the high school game as boys' coach at Murray.
Flener coached boys' hoops at Eminence, Glasgow (which he led to the All "A" state title in 2001), Lexington Catholic and West Jessamine before going to Asbury.
Flener has an overall record of 361-237, including a 251-151 mark on the high school level.
Flener said the Murray job was attractive for several reasons, including a chance to coach his son Zach, who will be a sophomore next season.
Never miss a local story.
"And I like working in a small school system like Murray. It has a great academic tradition as well as athletic tradition," he said. "It reminds me a lot of Glasgow."
Flener will also be assistant superintendent for the Murray school system under superintendent Bob Rogers.
"That's very appealing to me from an administrative standpoint," Flener said. "Superintendency is something I'd like to pursue."
