Covington Catholic pulled ahead in the third quarter and rolled to a 56-35 victory at Dixie Heights on Friday night in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout. Catholic trailed 28-14 early in the third quarter, but scored 28 straight and the last 14 to seal the win.
Senior running back Gabe Gray led the charge, scoring all of Catholic's third-quarter TDs. He finished with 222 yards on 19 carries and scored his team's last two TDs on a 10-yard catch and a 60-yard run.
Zeke Pike, Dixie Heights' star quarterback who missed last weekend's loss to Newport Central Catholic because of a suspension dating to last season, threw for 333 yards and three TDs. Pike, who has committed to Auburn, was intercepted twice and ran for two scores.
Franklin Co. 62, Western Hills 0: The Flyers hit the 60-point mark for the second straight week, and piled up 491 yards in the process.
Junior quarterback Logan Woodside threw for 250 yards and four TDs. Another junior, Ryan Timmons, caught two TD passes and ran for another score.
East Jessamine 29, Spencer Co. 20: Cameron Thomas carried the ball 26 times for 86 yards and figured in all four of visiting East Jessamine's touchdowns, including an 80-yard catch from Cody Garrett.
Breathitt Co. 35, Letcher Co. Central 14: Breathitt County scored 21 points in the third quarter to pull away for the win at Letcher Central.
Will Collins ran for 152 yards and two TDs, and Richard Trent threw two TD passes.
Trinity 66, Montgomery Bell (Tenn.) 21: Travis Wright threw for 336 yards and five touchdowns — three to James Quick — to lead the Shamrocks at home. Dalyn Dawkins led Trinity's rushing attack with 149 yards and a pair of scores.
Paintsville 34, Paris 12: Sophomore Mark Fannin ran for 222 yards and three TDs for the visiting Tigers.
Russell Co. 30, Whitley Co. 0: Nick Britt, a junior tailback, ran for three long touchdowns in host Russell County's victory. Britt got the scoring started with a 45-yard TD in the first quarter. he followed that up with a 79-yard TD in the third and a 51-yard score in the fourth.
Bath Co. 42, West Carter 12: Senior Garrett Vinegar ran for 308 yards and scored from 73, 27 and 48 yards out for host Bath County.
Monroe Co. 48, Metcalfe Co. 6: Junior Corey Shirley ran for 171 yards and four touchdowns, all in the first quarter, to help host Monroe County jump out to a 41-0 lead.
Pike Central 57, Phelps 6: Justin Smith ran for four touchdowns for the Hawks in the Pike County Bowl at Belfry.
