Henry Clay (5-6) at Scott County (10-1): Scott County has won its last 13 games against Lexington teams over the last three years, including a 69-34 shootout victory over Henry Clay last month. In that game, the Cardinals' Clay McKee was 6-for-7 passing for 224 yards and four TDs, and Dierrieus Dumphord rushed for 143 yards and two TDs. Henry Clay's Sammy Carter threw for 225 yards and two TDs, and Elijah Bell ran for 158 yards and two TDs. Expect the same kind of fireworks in the rematch. The winner will face either Campbell County or Simon Kenton next week.
Knox Central (10-1) at Lexington Catholic (9-2): Knox Central is having the most successful season in school history. Senior star Jeffrey Canady has had more than 300 all-purpose yards in each of the Panthers' last two games. Lexington Catholic QB Reese Ryan has thrown for 759 yards, 13 TDs since taking over for injured Kyle Bolin. Amoh Kumengisa has been a force at running back for the Knights. The winner will play either Boyle County or Russell County next Friday.
Lexington Christian (6-5) at Somerset (9-2): The Briar Jumpers, who won a 12-9 bruiser over LCA a few weeks ago, is rated the second-best team in 2A behind Newport Central Catholic. LCA's Nick Whitman, who rushed for 188 yards and one TD in the Eagles' first 10 games, ran for 182 yards and three TDs in a win over Leslie County last week. The Somerset-LCA winner faces either Danville or Prestonsburg next week.
TOP STATE GAMES
Conner (9-2) at Franklin County (11-0): At this stage of the playoffs last year, Conner whipped unbeaten Franklin County 84-48. Can the Flyers' defense make amends this time around?
Murray (9-2) at Owensboro Catholic (11-0): Murray dealt the Aces a defeat in playoffs last year. Owensboro Catholic bounced the Tigers from post-season in 2010.
Boyle County (7-4) at Russell County (11-0): No exaggeration to say this is the biggest game in the history of Russell County football. Boyle County is a big hurdle for the Lakers to clear.
Christian County (9-2) at Bowling Green (11-0): Christian County tries to end the Purples' 26-game winning streak. These schools have accounted for the last seven region titles, with Bowling Green winning five of them.
