Danville erupted for 21 fourth-quarter points Friday, spoiling Lexington Christian's Senior Night activities 31-20.
For LCA (1-8), a seventh straight loss was tough to take.
"Our guys are trying so hard," Coach Ray Graham said. "We did some things good. ... We don't have much time left to keep getting better and get the 'W's.' But I feel if our guys would really rise up and keep believing, we can get better and get some wins. It'd be great to finish the season with some wins, so we'll try to do that."
Never miss a local story.
Danville (5-4) scored on the first play of the fourth quarter, when Zack Dampier hit wide-open Kyron Warren for a 37-yard touchdown pass.
Warren had been open earlier in the game, but the ball slipped out of his hands.
"I felt like I needed to redeem myself," Warren said after his first TD grab of the season. "It just felt real good."
That gave the Admirals a short-lived 17-13 lead.
Short-lived because LCA took a 20-17 lead with 8:18 left, when Chandler Sneed hooked up with Sam Arnold for a 40-yard touchdown.
Danville came back to score on a 2-yard run by Olyjawan Ford, then stopped LCA's last-ditch effort to win.
The Eagles got as far as the Danville 26, then lost 5 yards. On third-and-15, Sneed was hit from behind and fumbled.
Ford scooped up the ball and hustled 65 yards down the sideline for the clinching touchdown with 1:46 left.
"It was kind of a sloppy game in some regards," Ads Coach Clay Clevenger said. "But we made some plays and had to make some plays in the air. They did a good job kind of stuffing us on the run game."
A pair of LCA misplays helped Danville to a 10-6 halftime lead.
A Danville punt was touched by an Eagle, with Danville recovering on the LCA 36-yard line.
Next play, Dampier hit wide-open Jawan Grey for a touchdown to open the scoring with 7:29 left in the first quarter.
The Eagles pulled to within a point with 6:59 left in the second quarter, when Dylan Lancaster broke an off-tackle run for a 36-yard touchdown. A botched PAT attempt left Danville with a 7-6 lead.
With less than a minute left in the half, LCA opted to go on a fourth-and-three play from their own 33.
A run lost 4 yards and led to Corey Steber's 31-yard field goal with 7.2 seconds left.
"We weren't supposed to snap the ball," Graham said of the fourth-down play. "We were just trying to pull them off if we could and maybe get a first down instead of them having a possession. ... But there were more things than that we did wrong."
The Eagles rallied to take a 13-10 lead in the third quarter, when Lancaster scored on a 1-yard run. Two plays earlier, Colin Duzyk scampered 74 yards to the Danville 4.
In the end, though, Danville sealed the victory with Ford's fumble return.
"We were kind of playing too soft, I thought," Clevenger said. "But finally got a little pressure on the quarterback and forced him into a mistake, hit him as he was throwing."
