Taxis would be able to sport World Equestrian Games advertising under a proposal approved by a Lexington council committee Tuesday.
The Services Committee endorsed a proposal to create a special-events permit for taxi companies, allowing them to change the colors of their cabs or repaint them to advertise a special event in Fayette County. Next year's WEG events prompted the proposal.
Eight cabs would be painted to advertise the games, according to Don Daugherty, operations manager of Yellow Cab of Lexington. The cabs would have to be returned to their traditional appearance at a cost of about $8,000.
On Tuesday, the proposal will go to the full council for consideration at its work session.
