OK, Zenyatta fans, here is your big chance: a rare opportunity to meet "Queen Z" in person is yours for the taking at the Lexington High Street YMCA's annual silent auction.
Minimum bid: $3,000. As of Wednesday morning, there were no takers.
The winner gets a visit for four to six people with Zenyatta at Lane's End Farm this summer, with a chance to take pictures.
Maybe you could ask her about pregnancy cravings. On Wednesday morning, Zenyatta was mated to Bernardini at Darley America at Jonabell Farm in Lexington.
Never miss a local story.
Since Zenyatta's retirement after the Breeders' Cup Classic last fall, she has been out of public life. Lane's End in Versailles, where she boards, is not open to the public during breeding season.
But that has hardly quelled fan interest. Zenyatta has more than 66,000 fans on her Facebook page, and there are diary entries on her Web site, Zenyatta.com. There frequently are photos of her enjoying farm life.
The YMCA also is offering one of Zenyatta's halters; bidding on that has reached $550. Other items include Keeneland box seats, tickets to the Lexington Opera House and more.
Bidding on all auction items closes at noon Monday.
To bid in person, go to the lobby of the High Street YMCA, 239 East High Street. To set up a bid by proxy, contact Ashley Baggett at (859) 367-7342 or firstname.lastname@example.org by 10 a.m. Friday.
