Coming up: Five graded stakes races are on the card for Saturday including three Grade I contests in the Shadwell Turf Mile, First Lady Stakes and Breeders' Futurity. Defending race winner and three-time Eclipse Award champion Gio Ponti headlines the Shadwell Turf Mile while multiple graded stakes winner Daveron looks to remain unbeaten in four starts this year when she runs in the First Lady.
■ Among the slew of notable horses on Saturday's undercard will be Grade I winner Switch in the Grade II Thoroughbred Club of America going 6 furlongs on the main track. Should Switch run well Saturday, trainer John Sadler said he probably would take her to Churchill Downs to prepare for a Breeders' Cup run before she is sold at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
■ Jill Johnston, owner of Grade III Phoenix Stakes winner Hoofit, did not rule out the chance she could ante up the $200,000 needed to supplement the 4-year-old New Zealand-bred gelding into the Breeders' Cup Sprint. "I've never had a horse there before and I'd love to be there with him. This win was a total surprise," she said.
