Breeders' Cup and Keeneland on Wednesday announced public transportation plans for the 2015 Breeders' Cup World Championships, which will offer shuttle service to and from Keeneland from three "Park and Ride" locations in Lexington on Oct. 30 and 31.
For $20 per car, paid in advance online, Breeders' Cup patrons will be able to take shuttles from Rupp Arena, Whitaker Bank Ballpark or the Kentucky Horse Park. Day-of passes will be $25 and available only at the Horse Park. Parking for the Rupp Arena and Whitaker Bank Ballpark shuttles will be available only on a prepaid basis.
All passes purchased in advance may be printed at home. No passes will be mailed.
Park and Ride passes include shuttle rides to and from the race track and Breeders' Cup World Championships programs for every person in the vehicle.
For patrons wishing to arrive at Keeneland by taxi or Uber vehicle, Breeders' Cup officials said stands for each would be at the track's drive-through betting windows.
"The Park and Ride locations will provide Breeders' Cup ticket holders with smooth and convenient transportation to and from Keene land for the championships," said Bob Elliston, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Breeders' Cup Limited.
Breeders' Cup ticket holders who don't need a parking spot may purchase a "walk-up" shuttle ticket, but only at Rupp Arena, for $5 on both race days.
Parking at Keeneland will be limited to those with official prepaid credentials. Some on-site parking may be purchased in advance with tickets. Vehicles arriving at Keeneland without an official parking credential will be redirected to a Park and Ride location.
With the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale set to begin the Monday after Breeders' Cup weekend, special parking provisions also will be in place for people coming to Keene land to view sales horses on Breeders' Cup Friday and Saturday.
According to Breeders' Cup spokesperson Jim Gluckson, sales traffic "will use the Gate 3 back entrance of Keeneland, and Keeneland will provide sales customers proper parking credentials for unimpeded access to sales consignments."
The Kentucky Horse Park and Rupp Arena also will offer Park and Ride service for Keeneland's "Prelude to the Cup" card on Thursday, Oct. 29.
Shuttles will run continuously each day, departing about every 15 minutes. On Breeders' Cup Friday, shuttles will begin at 9:30 a.m.; the last shuttle will be at 7 p.m. The first post for that card will be 12:30 p.m and last post will be at 6:10.
