Never miss a local story.
Darrin Miller trainee Havelock captured his third graded stakes at Keeneland and first win since taking the Grade III Shakertown in April when he looped the field under Garrett Gomez in Saturday's Grade III Woodford Stakes on the turf.
Last at the top of the stretch in the 5½ -furlong dash, Gomez swung Havelock to the outside at the head of the stretch and cruised to a two-length victory. Havelock joins Silver Timber (2010) as the only other horse to win the Shakertown and Woodford in the same year. A 6-year-old Maryland-bred gelded son of Great Notion, Havelock increased his career bankroll to $619,514 while covering the distance on a firm turf course in 1:03.17.
