The Day at the Races
Friday's figures: On-track attendance, 20,884; on-track betting, $1,479,478.70; total betting including simulcast, $9,661,210.93.
This day last year: On-track attendance, 11,897; on-track betting, $1,106,027; total betting including simulcast, $8,824,958.
Coming up: A pair of depth-laden graded stakes are on tap Saturday with the Grade III Ben Ali Stakes and Grade III Coolmore Lexington Stakes. Winning Cause, winner of last year's Lexington Stakes, heads the 10-horse field for the Ben Ali. Graded stakes-winning stablemates Solitary Ranger and Poker Player make up a 1-2 punch for trainer Wayne Catalano in the 11⁄16-mile Lexington.
Never miss a local story.
■ Daring Dancer, winner of Thursday's Grade III Appalachian Stakes, came out of her effort well as she capped a three-win day for trainer Graham Motion's barn. It was the first three-win day for a trainer at the spring meet, which enters its 11th day Saturday. Next for Daring Dancer probably will be the $100,000 Hilltop going 11⁄16 miles on the grass on May 16. The race at Pimlico is basically right in the front yard for Daring Dancer's Sagamore Racing.
■ Friday's fourth race featured the second dead heat of the spring meet as Remembermealways and Electro Peg hit the wire together going 61/2 furlongs on the main Polytrack. The Grade I Ashland Stakes on opening weekend also featured a dead heat with Rosalind and Room Service sharing the accolades.
