Astros reliever Jose Valdez made a sweeping tag at home to end the Mets' eighth-inning comeback. In the ninth, after Jose Reyes got his fourth hit, Josh Thole popped up a bunt and closer Brandon Lyon threw to first for the double play.
Cubs 2, Padres 1 (11), 1st game: Reed Johnson lined a 1-1 pitch into the left-field bleachers in the 11th inning to give Chicago a victory over San Diego in the opening game of a doubleheader.
Padres 5, Cubs 4, 2nd game: Ryan Ludwick had three hits, including one of the Padres' three home runs, and San Diego beat Chicago on Wednesday night to split the doubleheader. Cameron Maybin and Chris Denorfia also homered off Cubs starter James Russell (1-3).

Marlins 6, Pirates 0: Chris Coghlan drove in three runs, two of them on a second-inning infield single, and Ricky Nolasco struck out eight in seven innings as Florida beat visiting Pittsburgh. Nolasco (2-0) gave up four hits, walked one and threw 66 of his 96 pitches for strikes for the Marlins, who have won five of their last six.
Phillies 4, Brewers 3: Shane Victorino hit a tiebreaking homer in the eighth inning, Placido Polanco had a three-run shot and Philadelphia beat Milwaukee at home.
Polanco connected off starter Chris Narveson to tie it in the sixth. Victorino then hit a long drive to deep right-center off Brandon Kintzler (1-1) to put the Phillies up 4-3.
Angels 4, Rangers 1: Jered Weaver became the major league's first five-game winner as he struck out eight in a complete game, leading Los Angeles to victory over Texas. Howie Kendrick and Vernon Wells homered for the visiting Angels.
Red Sox 5, Athletics 3: Kevin Youkilis and Jed Lowrie homered off the previously untouchable Gio Gonzalez and Boston got its first road win of the season after seven straight losses. Clay Buchholz (1-2) allowed a leadoff home run to Coco Crisp and nothing else in 51⁄3 innings.
Rays 4, White Sox 1: Wade Davis pitched seven solid innings, John Jaso homered and Tampa Bay won for the eighth time in nine games with a victory over visiting Chicago.
Yankees 6, Blue Jays 2: Bartolo Colon pitched into the seventh inning to earn his first win in two years and host New York beat Toronto. Curtis Granderson homered for the AL East-leading Yankees, who won for the fifth time in seven games.
