Dan Merklinger, Corey Frerichs and Rob Wooten held the Lexington Legends to a run on three hits at Applebee's Park on Monday night as the West Virginia Power took the third game of the series with a 4-1 victory. Tuesday's series finale will also be the Legends' final home game of the season.
The Power took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Curt Rindal started it off with a double. He moved to third on Matt Cline's single and scored on Lee Haydel's base hit. Then Haydel scored on Eric Farris's two-out single.
The Legends got their lone run in the bottom of the fourth. Brandon Barnes ripped a two-out double and scored on Jonathan Fixler's base hit.
West Virginia got a pair of insurance runs in the seventh.
Frerichs (6-8) pitched two perfect innings of relief to get the victory. The Legends' Jeff Icenogle (3-10) allowed a pair of runs on nine hits over five innings and was tagged with the loss.
