The Lexington Legends broke open a scoreless game with five runs in the fourth inning and went on to beat the host Bowling Green Hot Rods 7-3 Thursday night in the first game of a doubleheader. In the nightcap. Brandon Barnes went 4-for-4 and the Legends completed the sweep with a 9-6 victory.
Brandon Barnes had a two-run double, Kyle Miller a two-run single and Brian Pellegrini an RBI single in the Legends' big inning.
Pellegrini went 3-for-4 to raise his average to .339.
Steve Brown tripled in a run in the sixth and scored on a balk to give Legends starter Kyle Greenwalt a 7-0 lead.
Greenwalt (3-5) fell one out short of completing the seven-inning game. He shut out the Hot Rods on four hits through the first five innings, but he allowed a run in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Game 2: Legends 9, Hot Rods 6
Barnes hit two home runs and drove in three runs to lead Lexington in the second game.
Barnes' second blast highlighted a six-run sixth inning that turned a 5-1 deficit into a 7-5 advantage. Lexington added two runs in the seventh on back-to-back run-scoring hits by Brian Pellegrini and Ebert Rosario.
The Hot Rods opened up their early advantage with a four-run second inning. Legends starter Arcenio Leon was pulled in favor of Brian Wabick to start the third. Wabick (3-0) came on to strike out four batters over three perfect innings for his fourth straight appearance without surrendering a run.
The Legends return to Applebee's Park for a six game homestand starting Friday night against the Greenville Drive.
