The Lexington Legends racked up 18 hits and defeated the host Asheville Tourists 11-4 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday. But the Legends followed that up with two hits in a 3-0 loss in seven innings in the second game.
Kody Hinze and Jiovanni Mier had four hits apiece in the opener, the completion of a game suspended in the third inning Friday because of rain.
Hinze was 4-for-4 with three RBI and Mier was 4-for-5 with three doubles. J.D. Martinez added three hits, including his sixth home run, and Jonathan Fixler hit his first home of the season.
Zach Grimmett (1-0), who took over for Friday's starter Jose Cisnero when the game resumed Saturday, picked up the win. Nick Schnaitmann (3-4) was the loser.
In the second game, Asheville starter Alan DeRatt pitched the first five innings, and Sheng-An Kuo came on in relief to limit the Legends to two hits.
Asheville scored all three of its runs in the fourth inning. Kent Matthes tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a single by Jared Clark. After Clark was caught stealing, Avery Barnes singled and Orlando Sandoval homered to left field to close out the scoring.
DeRatt (1-0) got the win. Colton Pitkin (1-1), who worked the first four innings for Lexington, took the loss.
The Legends took three out of four in the series and seven of eight games against Asheville for the season.
